Atari acquires Cryptic Studio announces that Atari's holiday shopping spree includes the purchase of Cryptic Studios, developers of current superhero MMORPG City of Heroes and three upcoming projects: Champions Online, Star Trek Online, and an unannounced project. The deal also means some of Cryptic's technology make its way into other Atari titles and the Atari.com portal. As for finances, the deal is described as performance-linked, involving almost $27 million USD in cash and up to another $20 million in potential bonuses payable in August 2010 and May 2011 said to be based on whether Champions Online and Star Trek outperform undisclosed targets.
