1UP reports that Japan-based Namco Bandai is opening a new game development and publishing studio called Surge, which is specifically intended to appeal to Western sensibilities. The first Surge release will be Afro Samurai on January 27, 2009, and Namco Bandai says other IPs will be switched to the Surge label.
