A post on TiberiumSun.com gives some interesting news on what info is passed along to Westwood when registering Tiberian Sun online. Apparently in addition to sending the serial number of your C&C Windows 95 edition (it's not clear if this is just a Win95 thing), it also sends your network adaptor's MAC address.
