Strong feelings expressed in the following pieces do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Blue's News. Here are some articles voicing discontent with some of what is going on with the direction of Quake III Arena:

What looks to be the final update to Mad Dog's CFG page takes issue with the removal of the Alias command, unhappy that John Carmack is now sympathetic to the opinion that aliases are a form of cheating. Thanks Doug Chopin.
Can id Software Make a Real Game is a DarkNews editorial calling id's gamemaking skill into question. The article's history is not 100% accurate, though that doesn't mean the author isn't entitled to hold that opinion.
Who Watches the Watchmen is an editorial by ace skinner Rorshach (looks like the title of his article covers the pop culture game on this one) complaining about the Q3Test EULA's restrictions on modifications. Again, his history is not truly accurate -- id has always permitted heavy modification of their retail games, but has always restricted modification of their demos and shareware in order to preserve the reasons for buying the full releases.
While posting what may be controversial opinion pieces, I'll pass along The Smoking Gun, written a while back by Andrew Smith delving further into what he believes to be the inner workings of GameSpy Industries with an almost inexplicable scrutiny.
