ION Storm's Daily Informant has conducted a Q&A with Daikatana designer John Romero, with some information as to the status of his long-in-production game. Here's a quote from John regarding the latest changes:

Since E3, Daikatana has made impressive progress. We have some new graphics features, better sound fidelity, fixed lots of low-level bugs in the game and are almost final on our major map pass.
