A Game About Digging A Hole is now available for Windows
on Steam. Folks apparently dig this already, as it's presented as a "viral
gaming sensation" after prerelease videos racked up over 20 million views on the
socials. The idea may be hard to grasp, but A Game About Digging A Hole is a
game about digging a hole. This is shown off in the
release trailer, which
reveals your task does not involve concerns about gravity or where to put dirt,
just digging. If we haven't captured the its essence properly, here's the
official description of the game and its extensive development cycle:
A
Game About Digging A Hole was conceived by a solo artist from Cyberwave
(developer of the upcoming Solarpunk) while testing mechanics for terraforming
and digging. Although too complex for such a small team, the core mechanics were
already functional so the artist had the idea of combining these mechanics with
randomly spawning ores and shovel upgrade options. This led to the quick
development of a 3D digging minigame, built on a proven concept without
requiring lengthy prototypes or testing phases. Developed during the artist's
vacation and saving development time by using licensed assets, A Game About
Digging A Hole was developed in just 14 days.
