An
apologetic X
from Unity announces the game engine developer is "listening" to the angry
response to
its proposal to
charge per-install royalties for games using the Unity engine. It's taken almost
a week to read the room, but after signaling it would mostly stand its ground,
the post suggests the company may be choosing not to die on this hill after all.
Word is the policy is being changed, and we will learn exactly how
shortly:
We have heard you. We apologize for the confusion and angst the
runtime fee policy we announced on Tuesday caused. We are listening, talking to
our team members, community, customers, and partners, and will be making changes
to the policy. We will share an update in a couple of days. Thank you for your
honest and critical feedback.
