In a disturbing turn of events, the RIVA Station
is reporting that the folks at ASUS have quietly sneaked the wireframe and
transparent wall features back into their latest drivers, in what would be
assumed is an attempt to boost sales to gamers regardless of the consequences
to the game community. You may recall that there was talk last summer that these
features would be implemented (story, story, and
story), though, due to all the hue and cry (story),
when the drivers were released (story), the only gamer feature
included was an inoffensive super-gamma brightness feature, with ASUS saying
they would reevaluate the other features for possible inclusion in a future
release based on user feedback (story). It is not apparent whether
that feedback actually indicated this feature was desired, or what the reasoning
behind this move is, but we can only hope by bringing it to light there can be a
more positive outcome to this than simply inspiring more people to download the
offending drivers.
