Bungie announces
it is being acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment as the latest battle in a
console war that heated up when Microsoft
acquired Activision
Blizzard a couple of weeks ago. Sony's perspective on the sale,
reportedly worth $3.6 billion, can be found on the
SIE
Blog. Interestingly, Bungie has been in bed with all the players in this
story at one point, having signed a 10-year partnership with Activision
in 2010 and previously
having been owned by Microsoft from
2000
until
2007. Here's word on why Bungie feels its
third marriage is true love:
In SIE, we have found a partner who
unconditionally supports us in all we are and who wants to accelerate our vision
to create generation-spanning entertainment, all while preserving the creative
independence that beats in Bungie’s heart. Like us, SIE believes that game
worlds are only the beginning of what our IPs can become. Together, we share a
dream of creating and fostering iconic franchises that unite friends around the
world, families across generations, and fans across multiple platforms and
entertainment mediums.
