A
post to the Final Fantasy Website announces a delay for the upcoming
Endwalker expansion for
Final Fantasy XIV. This
was expected to come to
the MMORPG on November 23rd. Now Square Enix explains it's going to take another
couple of weeks to get it into players' hands. Producer/director Naoki Yoshida
takes full responsibility for the setback, saying: "The biggest factor behind
the release date change was my own selfishness as the game’s director." This
selfishness seems to center around a desire to release a better product, so he
should probably be forgiven. If you're still not inclined to give him a pass,
check out
this video where announcing the setback literally moves him to tears. Okay,
the video is almost seven hours long, and is in Japanese, so maybe just take
VGC's word for it. The post goes into more detail about the delay, providing
this updated release schedule:
I am incredibly sorry to share this so
close to launch, but I have decided to postpone the release of Endwalker. The
original release date was scheduled for Tuesday, November 23, 2021, but I have
decided to delay the release by two weeks. As such, the expansion pack will now
be released on Tuesday, December 7, 2021.
There are several reasons for the postponement, but as I’m the one overseeing
all aspects of the title as the head of the project, the responsibility falls
solely on me. Allow me to convey my sincerest apologies to our players, our
Warriors of Light around the world who have been looking so forward to the
release of Endwalker. I am truly sorry.
