Some grist that's been churning in the rumor mill is that some members of the
TRIBES 2 development team were being let go, so we pestered Dynamix'
already-busy Dave Georgeson to get the scoop on this, which he was kind enough
to provide, in spite of his probably justifiable feeling that we are being
buttinskies. Here's Dave's reply which includes confirmation that the team is
being trimmed by eight, their prospects for return, as well as word that TRIBES
3 is among the future projects they are preparing to pitch:
Okay...first
of all...at the risk of being rude, I don't think this is anyone's business but
our own, I think people are being a bit buttinsky here, and this is a private
matter that should be between the company and its employees...not the population
at large.
However, that being said, I know that people can feel quite close to the game,
and the team by association. Therefore...
1) Yes. We are trimming the team from 24 people to 16 after we finish launching
the product. We are doing this for purely financial reasons because 24 people is
too many people for an add-on and continuing support of a released game. Most of
the reductions are natural attrition (some folks are leaving in the next month
or so, others transferred to other internal teams, and a few folks separated
from this team). All of it is well-planned and planned for so that the team
stays healthy and so that those leaving are cared for.
2) We found employment for all team members that left except one person (whom we
are still working on getting placed).
3) This was handled in such a way that, as far as I know, no feelings were
damaged or tempers flared because the reductions were NOT personal in nature.
4) Some of these people may (and probably will) come back to this team after a
few months have passed when it makes sense to grow the team again.
5) The remaining team are already gearing up for improvements to T2 and putting
together pitch packages for our "Next Big Things" (including T3).
Please notice that I have not included names in this email. I don't feel that
it's my place to announce the employment position of individuals. They may do
this if they so desire.
