Valve to Sponsor Game Devs of Color Expo

A tweet from Shawn Alexander Allen reveals that Valve has signed on as a sponsor of the upcoming Game Devs of Color Expo (thanks PC Gamer). The game designer and self-described activist who's one of the event's organizers says: "There will be a cool side effect to this we will announce soon)." He adds that Valve is also supported the Black Voices in gaming event hosted by @icjman. Though they postponed their Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition by a week, Valve never explicitly stated why, and recently took heat from a couple of indie developers who removed their games from Steam over the company's failure to make a statement on the Black Lives Matter movement. The Game Devs of Color Expo will be held online on September 19th, and here's a bit on the program:
Get ready: the Game Devs of Color Expo is going virtual on September 19, 2020! Since 2016, people from around the world have united in Harlem, NYC to collectively elevate the games industry. This year, things will be a little different—for the safety and health of our community, we will gather online.

At the virtual Game Devs of Color Expo, new and experienced game developers will share, learn, and connect in unique ways that wouldn’t have been possible in-person.
