Two very serious stories have surfaced with allegations of rape and sexual assault in the game development industry. A post titled
calling out my
rapist by Nathalie Lawhead accuses famed game music composer Jeremy Soule
of rape during a time she was working on an ARG in Vancouver in 2008.
WCCFTECH reports that Soule, who has worked on renowned soundtracks for many
prominent games, has not yet commented on the allegation. Inspired by Nathalie
sharing her story, Zoë Quinn
has
tweeted a "me too" story as well (thanks
GameRevolution). Quinn, who was at the center of events that helped spark
the GamerGate controversy, alleges an abusive relationship with
Night in the
Woods creator Alec Holowka in the aftermath of a sexual assault by an
unnamed assailant. To be clear Holowka is
not being accused of this
sexual assault. His
twitter
feed is protected, however, and it's not clear if he's responded to this.
The actual assailant will apparently remain anonymous, as Quinn says: "A few
months into making games, I was sexually assaulted. My visa status was
threatened if I told anyone (but a third party who saw it happed confronted him
about it the next day). This story isn't about him - after years of therapy and
working on himself, he reached out an apologized for everything, and I've
forgiven him."
