A
post on Battle.net reveals Blizzard's immediate plans for Heroes of the Storm,
their MOBA/team brawler, including upcoming new content and a complete revamp to ranked
play that will roll out next month. They unveil two new heroes: Chromie, the game's first representative of the Azeroth
Dragonflights who will come on May 17th, and Medivh, a powerful ranged
specialist coming on June 14th. They also show off new mounts and skins in the
works. In a
separate post, they elaborate on previously revealed plans to revamp ranked
play, saying the first official ranked season will launch in
all regions the week of June 14th, following the conclusion of the preseason
that's been running since the game's beta phase. Seasons will be about a month,
though season one may be longer. They outline a new ranking system that includes tiers
and divisions and the promised Master and Grand Master distinctions for those
who compete at the highest levels. Each season will begin with 10 placement
matches, though current MMR standings will be used as a "loose guideline" for
initial tier and division placement, and once out of the placement phase, only
players within one league tier of each other will be able to queue together. They also show off new badges and say
rank dependent rewards will come at the conclusion of each season for both Hero League and Team League. In the meantime, they
lay out the rewards they
will hand out to players based on their highest ranks during the preseason,
including special portraits and mounts.
