I somehow managed to make my appointment for a FiOS installation without realizing Verizon was on strike. If I was smart I would have postponed this until everything was settled there, but I am dumb, and I allowed my eagerness to stop suffering internet disconnections to convince me this would work out. The guy who came to do my install was nice enough, but he was an app programmer, and any efficiency he brought to the software side of this was more than negated by his inexperience with the hardware (anyone who has every marveled at a cable technician putting a plug on a co-ax cable in 10 seconds would have cringed at how he made this a 10 minute process). Anyway, the internet side of this is all working fine, but I have no telephone, and my attempts to address this has lead to a string of conversations with people who have zero idea what they are doing. I'm hopeful this will all get worked out this morning, but I am starting to grow fearful that we may end up losing our phone numbers along the way.
