AMD's VR Headset & Dual-GPU Pro Video Card Announced

ExtremeTech has details on the Radeon Pro Duo, a dual-GPU graphics card coming soon for those willing to foot its $1,499.00 price tag. They say this is targeted more towards developers than users, and that one of the applications of a monster like this is virtual reality development. VR is something AMD also addresses with the announcement of Sulon Q headsets, which include a PC integrated into the unit, which may end up being more ergonomic than competitors by being wireless, or less, by being clunkier. Here are more details on the new dual-GPU card:

As the name “Radeon Pro” implies, this really isn’t a GPU marketed to enthusiasts. While it should offer the highest-end dual graphics solution currently available, $1,499 is a high price, even for the enthusiast market. The one argument to make in favor of the Radeon Pro as opposed to a pair of Fury X’s is that most cases aren’t designed to mount two GPU radiator blocks.

AMD may still release a dual GPU card that’s explicitly aimed at the enthusiast market, but this GPU is targeting VR developers. Dual-GPU support for VR is something AMD has been keen to push with its LiquidVR technology, and it’s hoping that more developers agree to support the software.
