Happy Mario Day! (Mar10, get it?). Here's a salute to the persistent little plumber. I'm pretty old school on this topic, as my favorite Mario game was is first appearance in the original Donkey Kong. So here's some similarly vintage trivia about the character: Shigeru Miyamoto wanted to make a Popeye game but couldn't get the license, so he cooked up Mario, Donkey Kong, and Princess Peach as substitutes for Popeye, Bluto, and Olive. I'm guessing the IP value of those Donkey Kong characters probably now dwarfs the value of the Popeye cast, huh? Sometimes the best deals are the ones you don't make.
