A forum comment earlier this week joked that the year wouldn't be complete
without some sort of kitchen appliance disaster (preferably
coffeemaker-related). Well, in spite of how my coffee making setup is pretty
foolproof these days, I managed to deliver nonetheless. It's not much of a
story... Years ago I upgraded to a ceramic filter holder over a plain plastic
Melitta dealie, and while this worked great, the bottom of it was deliberately
not flat, so it would wobble when set on the coffee pot. So yeah, I accidentally
nudged it, and kaboom... coffee grounds and porcelain shards everywhere. And
while I'm sure I save the plastic cone for such emergencies, I can't find where
I hid it, so it's not serving in the meantime. And even worse, my first
replacement seemed as if it had been kicked all the way here, as it arrived in
more pieces than the one I am replacing. So there, even without a coffeemaker, I
managed to break my coffeemaker.
