Was toasting some bread last night and when I returned to the kitchen after a
short absence, I found it filling with smoke. It seems the timer gave out on the
toaster oven, and it didn't shut off upon reaching zero. It was pretty shocking
how quickly this escalated, as I wasn't out of the kitchen for more than a
minute before discovering the problem, though the bread was clearly already
overcooking when I departed. Anyway, I got it all taken care of before it became
a real disaster, and the toaster oven is out with the trash. The good news is
the smell of burnt bread is kind of pleasant, so the bit of odor that still
lingers is not a big problem. I'm just thankful, as under other circumstances
this could have resulted in a house fire. Scary.
