Blazing Griffin announces plans to release The Ship HD next year,
offering a modernized version of the 2006 mystery game that was originally
launched as a Half-Life 2 modification. The news is accompanied by
this teaser trailer, and here's the full announcement, complete with a
paraphrased Eagles lyric (apologies to The Dude):
Blazing Griffin has
announced that development has begun on The Ship: HD.
Launched in 2006, the original game (“The Ship: Murder Party”) introduced
players to The Ship set aboard a series of 1920’s cruise ships. Lured onto the
doomed vessels by the mysterious Mr X, the player is offered a very simple
choice – hunt or be hunted! Assigned a quarry who they must hunt down and kill,
the player must also avoid their own hunter while maintain their personal needs
such as hunger, thirst and hygiene.
The quirky blend of unique gameplay and dark humour has seen the game grow in
popularity over the years and more recently become a hit with Youtubers who love
to share their many, many, many untimely deaths with their subscribers.
In 2014 Blazing Griffin was joined by Jason Kocemba as Technical Director. Jason
was Lead Programmer on the original Ship mod, The Ship: Murder Party and Bloody
Good Time and brings a wealth of experience to the team as well as valuable
insight into the creative vision behind the original game.
On the development of The Ship: HD, Jason notes: "I loved making The Ship game
the first time round, it was some of the best times I've had in the industry.
I'm really excited to have the opportunity to work on the HD version of The Ship
with a different bunch of awesomely talented folks. It's a second chance at
unfinished business. It's a little bit like, to (mis)quote The Eagles, "You can
disembark any time you like but you can never leave!"
