Well the dragnet may not be upon us yet, but I think the Gunnar-man and I are outlaws. We were walking yesterday, and I will admit he was off the leash. Somewhere along the way over the winter I learned he had become quite reliable that way, and I often let him roam free, as he rarely gets more than six feet from me anyway. This hasn't been a problem before now, but yesterday someone started yelling at me about how I was running afoul of the local leash law, which indeed I was, though as I say, he was right with me. The thing is Gunnar would have been off the leash in that spot anyway, because I let him look for his girlfriend Elvis in her backyard. Anyway, being in the wrong, I have always planned on deferring to anyone who objected, but this guy was across the street nowhere near us, and he started the conversation by saying "You're a real smartass," which got things off on the wrong foot, to say the least, and I reacted with anger. This all ended with him taking photos of us to report us to the police, and the two of us hurling f-bombs at each other in very loud voices on a very quiet street. Not my proudest moment, but at least it gave me a weird story to share. I don't even think he lives in the area, but I wonder what will happen if we run into each other again.
