Polygon has the latest on the
lawsuit over Aliens: Colonial Marines, where consumers are protesting
how the finished product differed from what was marketed. They report a judge
recently denied Gearbox's motion to be
dropped from the case, but that a settlement proposed since then will drop
the developer from the case with prejudice (meaning they cannot be drawn back
into the case) in exchange for waiving rights to recoup legal fees. The court
has also stripped the case of its Class Action status, which may impact ongoing
negotiations with SEGA to settle the case. Word is: "The court notes from the
May 27 meeting between the attorneys doesn't explain exactly why the plaintiffs
dropped Gearbox from the suit. But it does seem to indicate that the developer's
unwillingness to settle and the loss of class action status forced the hand of
the plaintiff's attorneys who are now in renewed settlement discussions with
Sega." Thanks
