A price jump may be coming to digital purchases in Australia, where gamers are
already unhappy that they often pay more
for games on Steam than customers in other territories.
Player Attack has word that the country is considering what's called a
"Netflix tax" on digital media that would tack an additional 10% onto Internet
purchases of digital media like Netflix movies and Steam games. This may not
happen immediately, but they seem to feel it is inevitable, saying: "Whether or not
it makes it in time (the 2015 Federal Budget will be handed down on Tuesday
night) is a different question, but it's certainly something being discussed in
great detail. Maybe rather than a question of 'if' such a tax will be imposed,
it's more a question of 'when' - and 'how much'."
