X Rebirth Patch & Linux Alpha

EGOSOFT announces the release of a new patch for X Rebirth to update their space combat remake to version 3.50. They also announce the availability of a Linux edition of the game on Steam for public alpha testing, and this X Universe forum post has details on that. For those curious about the series, a free weekend is underway on Steam and all of the X games are currently on sale. Here's word on the patch:

Among the new features:

  • New generic missions and new upkeep missions for easier station management
  • New ships: The new Onil mining ships available in the Canteran shipyard in DeVries.
  • New "Container Magnet" which helps attract nearby collectibles to the player ship.
  • Easier navigation through text search field in map.
  • New FXAA graphics option.

Among the many improvements:

  • Improved station manager and station owned ship trade behavior.
  • Improved balancing and accuracy of combat calculations when player is not present.
  • Improved response of player owned stations to nearby player ships being attacked.
  • Completely re-worked Russian localization.
  • Improved support for UI-modding.
  • and much more...
