Firefly Studios announces Space Colony: Steam Edition, calling the third version of
their sci-fi base builder the "ultimate version" of the game. The original Space
Colony was first
released in 2003 and the game got an HD remake a
couple of years ago. The new version will be released
on Steam (duh) this
spring, and they offer
this trailer to show off what's changed this time around, which includes new
content as well as visual upgrades. Here's word:
Fans of base builders,
management sims and the closely-related Stronghold series can soon return to the
world of Space Colony in HD. Faithful to the original game Space Colony: Steam
Edition includes military and civilian campaigns with more than 80 missions in
total, including brand new single player content. Steam Workshop functionality
also has been added to the game’s map editor, allowing players to share custom
maps with the Steam community. Fans can discover old favourites, upload new
creations and even download whole new campaigns designed by the Space Colony
community.
“As an indie dev self-publishing on Steam we’re in total control. That’s a
daunting prospect but without Steam’s help, empowering developers like Firefly,
this new release wouldn’t be happening.”, said Simon Bradbury, Creative Director
of Firefly Studios. “Many of the original Space Colony team still work at
Firefly and we’re all thrilled to see the game finally getting the exposure it
deserves! I really hope players enjoy the new single player content and cool
Steam features.”
Nearly twelve years after release, Space Colony: Steam Edition is more feature
rich and visually enhanced than ever before. Created exclusively for Steam, this
new remastered version will include Steam Achievements, Trading Cards, Steam
Workshop support and Steam Cloud for saved games. Space Colony: Steam Edition is
the definitive version for fans of the original and the Stronghold series, with
which it shares DNA in both gameplay and an irreverent sense of humour. Also
supported are new high resolution graphics settings, allowing players to view
their entire colony while playing on a single screen.
