A tweet from Guillaume Pierre ‏has word that EA is apparently closing the doors on EA Emeryville, the developer of SimCity, Spore, and The Sims that was known as Maxis before being acquired by EA in 1997. There is no official confirmation of this (in fact, EA is still advertising jobs at the studio), but his tweet indicates his @MaxisGuillaume handle will no longer be so accurate going forward, as he says: "Well it was a fun 12 years, but it's time to turn off the lights and put the key under the door. #RIPMaxisEmeryville."
