Friday the 13th! It's bad luck for anyone outside around here right now, as it's close to 20 below zero with the wind chill factored in. I got to experience a little of the mixed fortunes of nature yesterday, as I discovered a huge bird of prey on the garage roof making a meal of a squirrel. The snow-covered roof showed off the gore dramatically, and it sort of looks like the wood chipper scene in Fargo. I feel really bad for the squirrel, but the larger bird (I think it was a hawk) was obviously happy with the outcome. He spent well over an hour up there, and thankfully took the remains, so I don't have to figure out how to deal with them myself.
