The GameAgent Blog has a new update on the status of the promised Linux and OS X editions of Civilization: Beyond Earth (thanks Ant via [Phoronix]). Word is the Windows patch released earlier this week broke cross-platform play with the OS X edition, but a new patch for Mac users is now available to restore this. They also offer good news for Linux gamers, saying recent breakthroughs have cleared up a lot of the issues standing in the way of releasing this to the public. Word is this may come as soon as next week:

We were also able to successfully implement the aforementioned patch into the Linux version just in time for launch. And the launch should be very soon. We have now submitted the Linux version of Civilization: Beyond Earth to all parties for approval! Assuming all goes well, Linux users will be colonizing new planets just in time for Christmas (possibly as soon as next week).
