Indie developer Digital Entertainment now offers early access to APOLLO4X, a science fiction 4X strategy game for Windows, OS X, and Linux. The early access version can be purchased through GamersGate, the etailer unconnected with #Gamergate, and they are also hoping to get the game onto Steam through a Greenlight campaign. Apollo4X provides a refreshing departure from the classic 4X “Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate” and “food, production research” formulas. Emphasis is on trade management, calculated growth and internal development rather than incentivizing reckless geographic expansion. “The 4X genre has had tremendous growth”, said Joseph Young, the game’s designer and Creative Director. “Our game creates a new formula for 4X gameplay. We have listened to what the gamer community desires, and we will give them what they want with refreshing approach to the genre.”
