A
report on games.on.net says the price of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
on Steam in Australia jumped from $49.99 to $71.99 with no explanation, as WBIE
declined to comment when the site asked about this (they also note that there is
still the chance to get Shadow of Mordor down under cheaper through
Green Man Gaming). This echoes
their recent story about other price increases in the region discussing a
whopping 80% spike to the price of Civilization: Beyond Earth and a
$15.00 jump for Watch Dogs as well as earlier instances of sudden
inflation for Borderlands 2, XCOM, Fallout: New Vegas, and
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. They tag these price changes as the
Australia Tax, though
there's no firm explanation of why this is happening. Perhaps it's to bankroll
future potential AU
refunds?
