Transverse Could Have Been Wing Commander Online; Gamers Skeptical

Some community concerns about Transverse have appeared since the announcement of this upcoming sci-fi MMORPG from Piranha Games, and these are summarized by IncGamers. The game is drawing understandable comparisons to Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen, and some less understandable comparisons as well, as the RSI Community Forums notes similarities between the designs of some Transverse ships to those from Star Citizen. IncGamers also quotes Cloud Imperium's Ben Lesnick saying: "It’s a real project. We were worried it was going to be Wing Commander: Online – EA offered them the license at one point." The Transverse website shows this has attracted only 36 backers as of this writing, and the Transverse forums have comments from many users taking a wait-and-see approach to this after their experiences backing MechWarrior Online. These pledges total $3,840, while the project's goals are $1 million for space flight, $1.5 million for ship construction, $2 million for space combat, and $2.5 million for "spaceships harvesting," leaving open the possibility of a game where you can build a ship with weapon systems but not engage in spaceship combat.
