The Dwarf Fortress website has word that the next major update for Dwarf Fortress coming this week after almost two years of development. On a related note, WIRED (thanks nin) has details on a couple of mods that can allow players to play the throwback building game using mods with real-time 3D graphics replacing its bitmapped ASCII-style graphics that were state-of-the-art in 1986. There are more details on this week's patch in a new July update.
