Had another quiet evening last night, or at least it seemed that way. I guess it's true that I'd grown oversensitive to fireworks myself based on Hudson the wonder dog's anxiety, because watching the Gunnar-man sleep through the explosions is such a relief. We also had another episode of super-cheap steak dinner thanks to the manager's special at the supermarket, where humanely raised skirt steaks were on sale. Skirts are great on the grill with all that fat, and these turned out terrific. The weird thing is they weren't about to expire, so it's hard to see why they were marked down, but since they were dated to sell by the 14th, we picked up a couple more. They were priced at $3.99 lb, so each steak was about $2.25. I was looking for the price comparison, and was surprised to find there's actually a Big Mac index on The Economist (not that it's updated that frequently), which says "the average price of a Big Mac in America in January 2014 was $4.62." I'll take the skirt steak, thank you.
