Well we didn't get the rain predicted for yesterday, but it's underway now, so hopefully it will take away some of that snow. Apparently this snow removal will be assisted by how foggy it is, as this morning I had one of those "today I learned" moments when a meteorologist explained that, depending on the conditions, the heat released by the formation of fog can actually have a greater impact on melting snow that direct sunshine. In looking for details about this, I found a page explaining that the fog can sometimes actually clear snow faster than rain as well. Go fig.
R.I.P.: So very sad to hear about the passing of Ruby legend Jim Weirich. Thanks Ant via LWN.net.
