The
Project Reality website announces Project Reality 2, a standalone
game to follow up the popular Project Reality multiplayer modifications for
Battlefield 2 and Arma 2 (thanks
PC Gamer). Here's word on their plans for a CryENGINE first-person shooter:
Project Reality 2 (or simply "PR2") will be a free to play multiplayer
FPS PC game, based off of the critically acclaimed Project Reality modifications
for Battlefield 2 and ARMA 2. Unlike our previous projects, PR2 will be a
completely standalone game that will require no retail game to play. Our mission
is to create the most realistic, immersive and demanding shooter within a
virtual combat environment, focusing on encouraging teamwork through tactical
gameplay.
Current Status Project Reality 2 began in mid 2012 and is being created
completely from scratch using Crytek's next generation game engine, CryEngine 3
SDK. This powerful engine provides tools able to create many stunning features
to recreate and improve upon what you as Project Reality players have become
accustomed to.
We are currently developing an initial Alpha build, which will hopefully be
ready for internal testing within the next two months. Since Project Reality 2
is a standalone game, everything must be built from scratch, thus requiring more
production time than PR's previous projects. A public release is still away off,
but don't worry; during the entire development cycle we will be updating the
community with as much news and media as possible.
Features & Content Initially, Project Reality 2 will be a small scale, infantry
based FPS with a comprehensive weapon handling system that will aim to be as
realistic as possible. Map sizes will be 1km and 2km with an Advance and Secure
(or "AAS") style game mode, similar to that seen in the Project Reality: BF2 and
Project Reality: ARMA 2 modifications.
