Out of the Blue

I'm having a little frustration with my mobile service, as I've learned some of the texts I'm sending don't go through and others are cut off. As far as I know this is isolated to texts sent to one other person, and poking around online suggests this may be because I'm sending from the Verizon network across to the AT&T network, though we are also caught in the brand war, as this involves an iPhone 5 talking to a Galaxy S4 S3. I've seen a lot of reports online about similar problems, but not much suggests how to solve this, and some seem to think it's an inevitable complication of translating across networks or carrier technology or something, but I thought I'd throw this out there to see if anyone had any experience that might lead to a suggestion of how to work around this annoyance.
