A post on
Joe's Security Blog outlines an exploit found in The Elder Scrolls V:
Skyrim that could be used to crash Bethesda's RPG sequel. Far from being
restricted to that game, word is this can be found in every Elder Scrolls game
since Morrowind, and the author states: "I’m certain the same
vulnerability lies in Fallout 3 and Oblivion however I was too lazy to install
to show you all, but you get the idea." The good news is that this would not be
an easy vulnerability to exploit, particularly since none of the effected games
is played online, but the author expresses concern this could show up in The
Elder Scrolls Online: "This online capability might just make remote
exploitation of my 0day feasible. Why? If the same vulnerability is present in
Morrowind released in 2002 is still present in Skyrim (released 2012), the odds
are in my favor that the same vulnerability will be in the latest game release."
Thanks
