The war on the vines in our backyard is turning out to be an even bigger struggle than we imagined, as we continue to pull them down and yank up their roots. We have at least three different varieties, the two we think we have identified as Porcelain Vine and Virginia Creeper, and a third that's smaller, leafier, and easier to pull up, so it seems trivial by comparison. The one that's the real monster is the Porcelain Vine, which is pernicious, and can get freakishly strong. We had two tendrils running up into a maple tree which were each a pair of intertwined vines that could actually support my weight, and while I'm not the heaviest guy around, that was still disturbing, though a nice little home episode of Mythbusters to confirm that Tarzan's favored form of jungle transportation is within the realm of possibilities.
