My love of grilling should be obvious from how often I discuss it here, and I think over the years I've gotten pretty handy around the "man-stove," as MrsBlue puts it. My one attempt at smoking, however, was pretty disastrous: My grill has a side-box for smoking, but my effort at doing up some ribs low and slow came out making shoe leather seem tender. The main trick with this is to keep a constant temperature, which is not as easy as it may sound, which is why I'm intrigued by LinkMeter (thanks Slashdot). This homebrew way of regulating heat wirelessly uses an old LinkSys WiFi router, and I have one of those lying around. It all looks like it may be too intricate to actually undertake, but I may be less daunted as I read on, and the temptation to get properly smoked ribs and be able to show off such a high-tech/low-tech setup is very strong.
