Happy free comic book day! One of the things I did on Cinco de Mayo was play Wolfenstein 3D in honor of the shooter's 19th(!!) anniversary. I found it for sale on the id Software website, but it was 15 bucks(!!!!), so I picked it up on Steam for a fiver. It was interesting enough playing the game, but a couple of things bugged me, including something that grates whenever I play DOOM under Windows, which is the inability to turn off vertical mouse movement, which used to be a feature of DOS mouse drivers. I also had to play the game scaled down in a window, though this could have been overcome by changing my desktop resolution. All this makes me wonder how possible it would be to build an actual DOS machine for old school gaming. I'm guessing it might be pretty tough to work out, though I'm still thinking it would be fun to try, even if I have to admit it probably would only get used for the occasional odd nostalgia trip like my Wolfenstein session.
