Paradox officially announces Gettysburg: Armored Warfare, which was
revealed last month as they continue to catch up on the games they revealed at their convention. Gettysburg: Armored Warfare is a free-to-play online first-person shooter/real-time strategy game set in an alternate history where the American Civil War is fought with modern weapons (not to be confused with a game set in the modern day where the combatants wear Civil War uniforms). It is planned for release later this year, and will offer 32 versus 32 battles "with multiple game modes as Union and Confederate troops fight to change the course of history." Here are
a couple of screenshots showing the Union and Confederate heavy classes, and
here's a video interview featuring some gameplay footage and lead programmer Danny Green explaining how the modern weapons arrived in the past, the RTS/FPS mix, weapons and units, commander mode, avatar customization, gameplay modes, how they plan on following the initial Gettysburg map with other battlefields, and more. The trailer is embedded below.
