Metal Drift Relaunched

Black Jacket Studios has relaunched Metal Drift, the futuristic first-person vehicular sport/combat game that was first released via Steam in late 2009 amid the release of higher profile titles Borderlands, Dragon Age: Origins, and Modern Warfare 2. There is now a new version of the game for sale on Direct2Drive and GamersGate with some bug fixes as well as some improvements, including a new account system; a faster, more reliable new Master Server; new tank skins; and new East Coast and European dedicated servers. The game's original launch trailer shows off what to expect, and here's Black Jacket's explanation of the relaunch: "When we initially launched on Steam, it was tucked between Borderlands, Dragon Age, and Modern Warfare 2 releases. We were lucky to get the little press that we did at the time. We're re-launching now on new platforms and with an update to bolster and expand our community and hopefully get a little more attention at a slower time of year. We still think it's the most action-packed multiplayer game out there. Maybe not the best graphics ever, but you really can't beat the action." The list of changes and bug fixes follows..

Feature list:

  • New account system - Allowing players to play each other on any PC platform.
  • New Master Server - Faster, more reliable with more accurate player counts.
  • New Tank Skins - Now identify players by rank.
  • New East Coast and European dedicated servers - Low pings across the western world!

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed inaccurate player counts in servers.
  • Fixed incorrect weapon bonus damage.
  • Restored and fixed ‘Drakon Fire’ Steam achievement.
  • Fixed collision issue with the ball bouncing off boost tunnels.
  • Fixed ‘Team Fake’ boost color issue.

Misc. Changes:

  • Added cockpit glass to the 1st person tank view.
  • Reduced number of players necessary to record leader board stats from 6 to 4.
