Thank you Cutter, for pointing the way to this article on composting, which helped me understand that I probably need to add more "brown" stuff like dried leaves and straw to the mix to help fight my insect problem. The sad thing is with the weather so dry and hot lately, finding brown leaves to add is probably going to be easier than it should be in the middle of summer.
