NPD Group announces its latest market research into gaming trends, saying that U.S. consumers spent $10.5 billion on new physical video game software in 2009 and an additional $4.5 to $4.75 billion on used games, rentals, subscriptions, digital full game downloads, downloadable content, and mobile game apps. These figures are actually a bit low, as they do not include social network gaming, with industry analyst Anita Frazier saying: "Consumer spending on social network games like those offered by Facebook would push this estimate even higher."
