GameSpot's Preview of WarCraft III has been updated, catching up with the latest developments in the development of the upcoming next installment in Blizzard's successful RTS franchise. As has previously been announced, the plan continues to be to add more significant role-playing elements than found in prior WC titles, but as the preview notes, the game is taking shape with more strategy elements all the time:

After we talked to Rob Pardo, lead designer of Warcraft III, a few days ago, we learned that the game would continue to have many role-playing elements, such as heroes, interactive environments, a seamless world, story-driven gameplay, quests, and experience for heroes. However, a change in direction now lets Blizzard add more strategy elements that were absent in the original design, such as scrolling, free-form building, and possibly even expansion-building, and a more elaborate resource model.
