Speaking at a UBS Media investor conference in New York today, EA CEO John Riccitiello forecast an 11% decline in boxed goods sales in the United States and Western Europe this year compared with last year. Riccitiello added a comment supporting the contention of many who claim that retail declines just represent a shift to digital distribution: "That packaged goods thing is very big deal. Digital has more than made up for it, but the packaged business has been a real substantial challenge."
