A post on The Consumerist alleges that the Entertainment Consumers Association (ECA) has made it difficult for members who want to opt out of the trade group, saying the ability to turn off membership auto-renewal has been removed from the organization's website and that phone cancellations are no longer being accepted. They also give voice to complaints that discounts on games at Amazon were used as an incentive to boost membership, but these discounts never materialized. ECA-owned website GamePolitics has a response to this from ECA head Hal Halpin, who explains the changes were due to members attempting to exploit promotional codes and repeatedly leave and rejoin the organization.
