Well my gable fan is finally fixed. After all that waiting, the guys didn't even come into the house, they were able to replace it from the roof. I try not to contemplate the consequences of them never asking me to shut off the power, as I picture an electrocuted guy falling 30 feet from the roof to his death, but it all worked out fine, and I'm sure I'm just being a wuss. And a hot wuss at that, as I think I have been overestimating the impact the repaired fan could have on such a nasty heat wave.
