Rage Software plc

RAGE LICENSES UNREALŪ TECHNOLOGY TO DEVELOP
ON-LINE GAMES AND FORMS EXCLUSIVE ALLIANCE
TO SUBLICENSE TECHNOLOGY ACROSS EUROPE

Rage Software is pleased to announce that it has entered into an agreement with Epic Games Inc ("Epic"), a North American games and game technology developer, to license the UnrealŪ Engine.

In addition, as part of the agreement, Rage has also been granted the exclusive right to sublicense the Unreal Engine to third party game developers and publishers throughout Europe. Rage will receive a royalty payment based on each license it secures. In conjunction with Epic, Rage will provide technical support for European Unreal Engine licensees.

The Unreal Engine is a 3D game development engine that helps produce a range of on-line, multi-player titles for existing and future console and PC formats. It was first used in the 1998 hit game Unreal, which according to its publisher, has sold in excess of one million units worldwide. Epic's next game Unreal Tournament (also based on the Unreal Engine) has been on the top-10 charts since its release in November, and has already won over 10 Game Of The Year awards including the Game of the Year award from Computer Gaming World, the number one PC games magazine.

Today's version of the engine features all the enhancements made for Unreal Tournament plus the ability to handle massive outdoor terrains, a powerful skeletal animation system, a new editor and support for the latest PC graphics hardware and next generation video game console systems.

Paul Finnegan, CEO of Rage Software, commented: "We're very pleased to have entered into this partnership with Epic Games and have the highest regard for their Unreal technology. We are confident it will assist our ambition to produce a range of cutting edge and mass market multi-player and Internet-based gaming titles. We also look forward to helping Epic expand the use of this technology across Europe."

Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games Inc. said, "We're proud to be working with Rage Software as both an Unreal Engine licensee and as a licensing partner. They are one of the European Community's most experienced console and PC developers and already have two of their premier development teams fully immersing themselves in the Unreal Engine. They'll not only develop awesome games with our technology but also help us build a strong talent base of Unreal Engine developers in Europe. This agreement with Rage strengthens our position as a leading technology licensor and provides great incentive for European game developers looking to license a 3D game engine."
