I'm personally finding the font very hard to read. Too crammed, not enough blank space, too much white per blue.

Doesn't feel like Blue's after all these years, but I suppose that'll pass. I don't imagine "hard to read" will pass, though. Is it possible that sites allow users to choose among a selection of fonts and that gets saved in the cookie? Not sure.

I do get some issues on different browser sizes with just that setting applied through an extension I use for custom CSS so I had to tweak a few other things to get it to work well for me.

I don't normally browse full screen so I did end up making it a fixed width in my override file as it was a bit narrow normally and some things were wrapping.

I'm a fan of CSS grid for overall page layout but it's not supported on older browsers (older than about 2 years). It also would probably mean a bunch more changes to what's already been done without a huge benefit once some tweaks are done to what's on here now.

I'm back home and now that I see it on 1440p, it's very noticeable that the left colum is too wide (wasted space) which wasn't the case on a lower res display I was using earlier today at lunch time. I wonder how it looks on a 4K display?

That 16.67% is maybe not the best solution but I'm not a pro when it comes to CSS and I'm always asking for help. I quickly find this: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/49850152/css-2-column-grid-one-fixed-width-one-responsive and also https://matthewjamestaylor.com/blog/ultimate-2-column-left-menu-pixels.htm then you should be be able to use 230 as a fixed width for left column while remaining is fluid.

For the STORIES OF NOTE and POPULAT THREADS font they look a bit better now that I'm on 1440p because pixels are smaller but a similar free alternative could be the Anton font https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Anton at 26px instead of 32, see how it looks: https://i.imgur.com/fpVo1y5.png

Just loaded it up on desktop.

The sidebar width could be adjusted with this CSS to make it a bit narrower on wide screens:

#left-menu { max-width: 230px; }

That will widen the main content area to fill the extra space.

On desktop it definitely feels more "normal, like the old style" to me at 90% zoom, but I'd definitely get used to the current sizing of text.

We use Bootstrap to create a "grided" layout.

On the desktop, the side menu uses a grid size of 2 (which translates into 16.666667%), and the main content area uses a grid size of 10 (which translates into 83.333333%). Together, those values equal to 100%. We would not want to change the width to an absolute pixel value as that would create scale-ability issues.

He's not setting it to an absolute pixel value, just setting the max.
It can both be dynamic and have a maximum still.

No, this banner isn't from the ad provider, it's Blue's affiliation banner with Amazon. It can be addressed another way, but not today anymore.

I see. Perhaps I can look into the script to see if there's a way to add the Bootstrap wrapper code around the image so that it can become responsive.

That's part of the legacy system. You'll need to click on it in the menu to tell the updated system to use that theme.

Looking closer now, I suppose mine is between your's and redeye's screenshots...

You get the full first article and a bit of the headline of the next,
he gets just the headline of the first
I get about half the first article

just different resolutions I suppose...
I just miss zooming in and out personally

Much better on mobile devices however.

Which device/OS? Your font size is huge.

That's what mine looks like too on Galaxy S6*, same large font.
I guess I'm a weirdo for liking tiny fonts on phones, hate excessive line breaks.

I agree the spacing around the main logo could be reduced, but still, on my phone the first story headline is visible.

All these are simply the same as on desktop. I suppose there are different ways to present these links, but leaving them out completely was not acceptable to us.

Yes, I already reported this bug to the ad provider. The ad should be centered (as it was during testing with their placeholder).
